Fraser Island Barges and Ferry, a Kingfisher Bay Resort Group company, provides a range of vehicle barge and ferry access to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. Barges and ferry services run daily via Rainbow Beach from Inskip Point, from River Heads, south of Hervey Bay, and from Urangan Boat Harbour in Hervey Bay.
From River Heads the Fraser Venture runs three services daily to Wanggoolba Creek and the Kingfisher Bay Ferry runs three services to Kingfisher Bay Resort.
From Rainbow Beach the Fraser Explorer and Rainbow Venture barges run on demand between Inskip Point and Hook Point between 0600 and 1730.
From Urangan Boat Harbour the Fraser Dawn runs two services daily to Moon Point.
There are also several daily passenger catamaran services between Kingfisher Bay Resort and Urangan Boat Harbour.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service permits are required for driving and camping on the island. Drivers should be aware of tide times and keep off the beach for two hours either side of high tide.
Driving conditions vary with weather and tides. Speed limits are 35km per hour on inland roads and 80km per hour on the Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Normal road rules apply. Carry essential spares as well as a towrope, spade, water and first aid kit.
On the beach, drive around the low-tide times. Indicate when overtaking, turning or passing and pass on the left. Slow down for pedestrians, wildlife, vehicles and aircraft and beware of humps and creek washouts on the beach.
Inland stay on formed tracks. Most tracks are narrow and two-way so keep a look out for passing bays. Give way to buses and downhill traffic.
